  BUCS Champion breaks UK women's 100m record

  Montell Douglas (Brunel) smashed Kathy Cook's 27 year old 100m record last night in Loughborough, and effectively guarenteed her individual selection for Beijing which will be annouced on Saturday.  Douglas clocked 11.05 in Loughborough after already being selected in the 4x100m relay team for Team GBR.

  The World University Archery Championships 2008, held in Taiwan, concluded the individual competition yesterday with Great Britain competitor Phil Glover (Loughborough) winning a Silver medal.

  University of Bath football player Sean Canham is currently on trial with Coca Cola Championship side Charlton Athletic, and enjoyed a run-out for the South London side last night in a friendly loss agaisnt Bromley Town FC.

  Brownlee heading to Beijing

  University of Leeds student Alistair Brownlee is one of three triathletes selected by Great Britain for the Beijing Olympics. Alistair, a second year sports science student from Leeds, recently won the World under-23 Championships and was the top British athlete in recent World Cup races in Madrid (finishing 3rd) and Des Moines (finishing 7th).

  British University Wakeboard Nationals 2008

  The  Wakeboard  University  Nationals  were  held  at  Sheffield  Cable  Water  Ski  at  the  end  of  June.  This  year  the  competitions  and  evening  entertainment  were  exceptional  with  over  80  students  camping  out  throughout  4  days  of  rding  and  14  different  categories.

  Team GBR took women's team silver at the World University Triathlon Championship held in Erdek, Turkey this past weekend (28 June). This was an impressive result by the Great Britian team as the event saw a participation record for a WUC Triathlon.

  World's oldest working football coach to collect MBE

  91-year-old football coach Ivor Powell will be presented with his MBE at Buckingham Palace tomorrow (Wednesday). Powell, a member of the coaching staff at TeamBath FC, was awarded the MBE in the 2008 New Year’s Honours List.

  Leeds Met student signs for Leeds United

  Leeds Met student and Carnegie scholar, Carla Cantrell, has signed for the University's partner team Leeds United Ladies. Carla, also a regular in the University's BUSA women's football team, joins the team from local rivals Doncaster Rovers Belles.
